The Priory certainly displays a unique devotion to the finer things in life. Hidden in a wooded valley near Gubbio and Cortona, this converted 12th century monastery sits in fifty acres of open farmland with shady terraces and flower-filled loggia. Between them, owners Liliana and John have created a beautiful country hotel that is totally in keeping with its original monastery feel. Rooms have sensitive touches of terracotta tiling with under floor heating, beamed ceilings and wooden shutters, plus en-suite marble bathrooms complete with hooded robes and slippers. Several have great views and expansive terraces, all have immense charm.  The Oratorio in the grounds of the monastery is an unforgettable place to tie the knot. You could even have a choir and opera singer to make the occasion even more special. Visit medieval hilltop towns, borrow vintage bikes or book a massage by the pool.

The low down

Rooms – 9 rooms.

Recreation – Outdoor pool (open May – September weather permitting). Cooking courses, guided hiking, mountain biking, horse-riding and croquet. 

Dining – Light lunch and a four-course dinner are available on request (minumum 4 people).

Additional services & facilities – Gardens and two lounge areas, one with an open fire. In-house beauty treatments available.  Church weddings can be arranged onsite. Private parking available.

Opening dates – 16 March to 31 October 2008.

Minimum stay – 3 nights.

Credit cards - Generally not accepted, if possible there may be an additional charge.

Child policy – Due to the tranquil ambience, the owners prefer to accept children only over 11 years old.
